Irvine, California, is a planned city located in Orange County. Irvine was developed in the 1960s by the Irvine Company and formally incorporated in 1971. It is situated on 66 square miles, with Tustin to the north, Santa Ana to the northwest, Lake Forest to the east, Laguna Hills to the southeast, Costa Mesa to the west and Newport Beach to the southwest. Most of the city lies in a broad flat valley, although there are some hills, plateaus and canyons to the north and south.
